Day 1 Nairobi
The safari begins in Nairobi, East Africa's most dynamic and colorful city. If you arrive early enough, a number of sightseeing excursions are available, including to the famous National Museum, and to the attractions in the nearby suburb of Karen, including Karen Blixen's homestead and Giraffe Manor. Day 2 Nairobi / Nanyuki
After breakfast, you will depart on safari with your driver and private vehicle and shall drive through central Kenya, passing through Thika town and many pineapple and coffee plantations. This area is thickly populated and amongst the most developed in rural Kenya. After crossing the Tana River, the sourse of much of Kenya's hydro power, the landscape changes and becomes more lush as you climb into the rich farmlands of the Kikuyu people. Lunch at Sweetwaters Tented Camp abd an afternoon visit to the Swwetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary (the only place in Kenya to see these highly endangered animals). The evening is spent in the historic Mt. Kenya Safari Club, the hotel created by William Holden and today the side of the famous William Holden Wildlife Foundation.
Day 3 Laikipia Plateau
Breakfast at Mt Kenya Safari Club followed by transfer into an immense private conservation ranch. The "Laikipia" region of northern Kenya has become a model for wildlife conservation and sustainable development the world over. Individual reserves, some as large as 100,000 acres, have been protected from rampant agriculture and cattle farming, to protect the natural wildlife and outstandingly spectacular bushlands. You'll arrive the luxurious camp in time for lunch, and immediately in the afternoon you begin your many varied activities. Overnight Sosian Ranch.‘Sosian’, the Samburu word for ‘Wild Date Palm’, combines the tame with the wild; ideal for those looking for a unique and intimate bush experience. Set amid stunning scenery and overlooked by snowcapped Mount Kenya, the old ranch house sits within 24,000-acres of working ranch on the Laikipia plateau.
Day 4 & 5 Laikipia
More than 250 species of birdlife and an abundance of game species including four of the big five can be found on the Sosian Ranch, including rare species such as Jackson’s hartebeest, Grevy’s zebra and reticulated giraffe. The accommodation comprises seven double cottages. The house has a swimming pool and billiard room and is hosted by Steve and Annabel Carey.Guests are encouraged to participate in ranch life, such as dipping cattle. Other activities include horse riding through the game filled ranch, camel safaris, day and night game drives, guided bird watching and fishing. Spectacular waterfalls offer alternative swimming along the Euaso Narok River.
Day 6 Laikipia / Mt Kenya
This morning you will leave Sosian after breakfast and be driven to Loisaba Airstrip for your scheduled flight to Masai Mara. You'll arrive in time for lunch in camp, followed by afternoon game viewing. For three nights you'll enjoy the splendor of a very exclusive camp built on the banks of the Mara River, Il Moran.
Day 7 & 8 Maasai Mara
Three game drives are included daily from camp in open Landrovers driven by the country's most experienced guides. The Mara is everyone's dream of Africa comes true: gently rolling grassland plains bisected by a number of great rivers. The area is filled with lion and cheetah, and leopards are often found. The plains are filled with wildebeest, hartebeest, topi, eland and much more, and the birdlife is incredible. You can visit a Maasai village and book a hot air balloon ride. Each evening you return to the unbelievable splendor of your luxury camp.
Day 9 Maasai Mara - depart
After a full morning of game viewing, fly back to Nairobi, where you'll be returned to your private room at the Norfolk Hotel. Your driver returns in the evening to transfer you to the airport for your departures home
