12 day Nairobi to Nairobi

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

We concentrate on the internationally acclaimed Game Parks and also visit lesser-known areas where we interact with the local tribes, including the renowned Maasai. Weather and road conditions influence the route chosen on each safari and guests should be flexible in this regard.

Itinerary Details

Day 1: Nairobi

Arrive in Nairobi and transfer to our Hotel in the heart of this bustling city. For clients arriving early, there are a variety of optional tours and excursion on offer - these can be arranged at the Hotel. At 18h00 join a pre-tour briefing before enjoying an own expense dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 2: Lake Nakuru

Leaving the city behind, and travel north, climbing continually to the lip of the escarpment where we will enjoy the fantastic view of the Great Rift Valley. Then descend into the Valley and enter Kale Nakuru National Park where you will game drive in search of Rhino, Leopard, Lion, Buffalo and many other species that inhabit the Park. Spend time taking in the breathtaking view of the vast flocks of Flamingo that gather here. Tonight you will camp just below the Equator at Kembu. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included.

Day 3: Lake Naivasha

A short drive today, head for your camp on the shores of Lake Naivasha. After setting up camp amongst the Fever Trees you have some time to relax, watch the Hippo's and take in the spectacular scenery. This afternoon visit Elsamere, the former home of Joy and George Adamson, for a afternoon tea and to gain some insight into their fascinating lives. Return to camp. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included.

Day 4: Masai Mara

Today you traverse through some of Kenyas finest wilderness, using lesser known roads, you will pass numerous Masai villages on the way. Your camp for the next two nights is adjacent to the renowned Masai Mara National Park. Enjoy a hot shower with water heated on a traditional Donkey boiler. Breakfast & Lunch included.

Day 5: Masai Mara

Today you enter the Park to enjoy a full day of extensive dame driving. The Masai Mara is well known for its large herds and ever-present predators, we will follow the seasonal migrations. Lunch today will be a picnic on the banks of the Mara river, known for its huge crocodiles and hippo population. Return to camp for the night. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included.

Day 6: Lake Victoria

Leaving the Masai Mara behind you, today you enter Tanzania and then descend toward the shores of Africa's largest lake, Lake Victoria. This Lake forms part of the Great Rift Valley and provides a livelihood for the many locals that fish its waters. Here you will spend time relaxing, exploring the markets, and trading with the local fishermen. Dinner tonight will be own expense at a local restaurant. Camp the night at the waters edge. Breakfast & Lunch included.

Day 7: Serengeti

Today you enter what is arguably the worlds most acclaimed wildlife sanctuary, the Serengeti National Park. This Park with its huge concentrations of plains game, numerous predators and prolific birdlife all resident on the seemingly endless grass and acacia covered plains epitomizes Africa's game parks. You will traverse the Park west to east doing extensive game drives, and will spend a night at the active Seronera campsite. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included.

Day 8: Serengeti - Ngorongoro

After an extensive morning game drive you leave the Serengeti and enter the Ngorongoro Conservation area where you witness the spectacle of the Maasai tribal people herding their cattle amongst the wildlife, still living their customary lifestyle as they have for centuries. Tonight you will camp at the renowned Simba Camp on the edge of the magnificent Ngorongoro crater. The views from the camp are spectacular. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included.

Day 9: Ngorongoro - Masai

At first light you make the daring decent into the crater in your smaller 4x4 safari vehicles and here you explore this marvel of nature with its shear walls and fertile plains. With the possibility to view almost all of Africa's animal species, including the rare Black Rhino, at close range in open plains - this has to be the finest game viewing available. Returning to Simba camp, you will enjoy lunch before exiting the park and descending the escarpment to your camp at a village. Here you will camp for two nights, literally amongst the Maasai people. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 10: Masai Village

Today you will explore the village and its surrounds on foot, you will spend time absorbing the unique culture hoping to experience the Masai dancing and will barter in the markets - all the time witnessing the traditional way of life. Camp the night. Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included.

Day 11: Arusha

After an early start you make our way towards Arusha, the town at the foot of the beautiful Mount Meru. Here we will spend the afternoon exploring this lively town and its local markets. Tonight we will enjoy an own expense meal at a local restaurant. Breakfast included.

Day 12: Transfer to Nairobi

After breakfast you will be taken to the shuttle terminal where you will catch the transfer to Nairobi. This road travels through some spectacular scenery and on a clear day offers stunning views of the mighty Mr. Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain. En-route to Nairobi city, the transfer will pass via the airport to facilitate clients who are flying today. Clients staying on in Nairobi or continuing on their travels will be taken into the city centre. Breakfast included.

Note:

To best enjoy this tour it should be approached with an open and flexible mentality.  Road, weather, or other unforeseen conditions may necessitate changes to the itinerary and clients should be prepared for this.  Visas for both Kenya and Tanzania are required by most nationalities, these are the client's own responsibility and you are advised to pre-arrange these with the respective authorities. Seasonal precautions against Malaria are advisable.   The recommended currency for this tour is the US Dollar and notes in small denominations should be brought along for expenses not included.   A small day pack is advisable.
