The carpets of wild flowers that cover the West Coast area of South Africa in Spring each year only appear after the winter rains have fallen in June and July. 

The best flower displays usually occur from early August to mid-October. Weather patterns, particularly hot berg winds, determine the duration of the flower season, making accurate prediction difficult. Therefore regional and national "Flower Hotlines" have been established for people to enquire about quality, size and position of the most beautiful flower regions.
