Day 1
Guests must arrive Rhino Post Safari Lodge between 12pm and 2pm, after which the guests will be transferred through to Plains Camp at 2pm. On arrival at Plains the guests will have time to settle in, enjoy a delicious high tea and start the first walking activity on the wilderness concession. The concession comprises of environmentally sensitive areas previously unexplored, with huge diversity of both fauna and flora - an ideal setting for wilderness walking safaris in an internationally renowned big five area. Back at the lodge enjoy a sumptuous dinner on the deck, as you recount the day's events all the while accompanied by the night sounds of the bush.
Day 2
Early morning wake-up and an invigorating cup of fresh coffee in the lounge. Nothing is predictable in the bush therefore each safari offers a potentially new experience. Guests will then set off on their morning trail, where they will be introduced to further wonders of the African bush. The trail will return to Plains camp for a well deserved brunch and then spend the heat of the day within camp, enjoying the small Africana book collection or the plunge pool overlooking the plain, which is often host to zebra, buffalo, giraffe, elephant, rhino and lion. The afternoon safari activity will start after high tea and will usually comprise of a short drive in the game vehicle to a specific location, after which guests will depart on foot for their trail, then, having returned to the vehicle will enjoy sundowners away from camp before returning to a delicious supper that awaits them.
Day 3 - Sleep Out
After another early start guests will set off following rhino trails and elephant paths. Brunch will be served upon their return to camp after which they will have the opportunity to relax. After high tea is served the guests will depart Plains Camp on the afternoon walk to the Sleep Outs, the elevated wooden platforms (weather permitting). This is the only place in the Kruger National Park offering this unusual accommodation. Guests will leave Plains Camp carrying a lightweight rucksack containing a change of clothes, a pillowcase, a sheet inner for the sleeping bag and refreshments. After hanging up mosquito nets, fly sheets (only if necessary) and preparing beds (yes! we do encourage our guests to be included in every aspect of this unique interactive experience of the bush) sundowners can be enjoyed on the platforms that also overlook a waterhole. While dinner is being prepared over the open fire for our guests, they will enjoy sounds and senses, heightened as they share the wilderness at night, while being safely guarded by our observant guides. The rumble of the elephant passing by or the roar of the lion at the nearby waterhole, are the only noises that might disturb guests in this peaceful wilderness.
Day 4
Guests having spent the evening at the Sleep Outs will enjoy a light snack after which they will depart on foot, back to Plains Camp for a hearty brunch followed by a transfer back to Rhino Post Safari Lodge for forwarding arrangements. Note: Plains Camp strives to keep guests together during their trail, without the inconvenience of different guests arriving and departing throughout their stay. With this in mind, if the first guests to reserve their trail at Plains Camp request the Sleep Out, then all subsequent reservations will be required to participate. Should all guests not wish to participate in the Sleep Outs; there will be no Sleep Out for the duration of the trail.
