Itinerary Details

Day 1 Lake Mburo National Park

Your safari guide will collect you from Entebbe International Airport and drive you through Uganda's rolling green hills to Lake Mburo National Park. Lake Mburo National Park is an extension of the Tanzanian plains with big herds of zebra, impala, eland and other ungulates (cloven hoofed animals). For birders, this is one of the best places to find African fin foot and papyrus bush shrike. You will check in at the camp and relax for a little while before going in a dug out canoe on the lake or going for an early evening game drive. Overnight at Mantana Lake Mburo Tented Camp (Full Board)

Day 2

You have an option of an early morning walk or game drive, and after breakfast depart Lake Mburo heading south through the highlands, also known as the 'Switzerland of Uganda'. Stop for lunch in Kabale, surrounded by mountains and then head even higher to where you can see the triangular peaks of the Virunga volcanoes of Rwanda and the Congo. You then drop down into a valley, to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home of the mountain gorilla. Tonight you will sleep to the sounds of the mountain rainforest. Overnight at Gorilla Forest Camp or Volcanoes Bwindi Camp (Full Board)

Day 3

Up relatively early for a hearty breakfast to give you the energy needed for gorilla tracking. Please ensure that your bags are packed so that your safari guide can move you over to Gorilla Forest Camp while you are trekking. Before 8:00 am report to the ranger station for registration and a talk by one of the rangers; the guides will then take you through the bush pushing your way through the undergrowth, parting thick creepers, to track the gorillas. (This trek can take from half an hour to 5 hours - a reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as a sturdy pair of walking shoes) Sit in the forest among the gorillas, listening to them grumble to each other, and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male; the silverback. It is an extraordinary feeling sitting in the dense rainforest knowing you are with a few of the last remaining mountain gorillas. It's amazing to think there are only about 650 of these beautiful creatures left! Sit on your private balcony and enjoy a sundowner...the perfect end to an amazing day. Overnight at Gorilla Forest Camp or Volcanoes Bwindi Camp (Full Board)

Day 4

Today you will leave Bwindi passing through the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park known as Ishasha, famed for its tree-climbing lions. Ishasha is a remote and beautiful extension of Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will see buffalo, topi and hippo among other species. It is a fabulous sight to see the lions draped from the trees and nowhere in Africa do you stand a better chance of seeing this than in the large low limbed fig tree of Ishasha. You will then continue through the Maramagambo Forest to the lodge. An afternoon boat trip along the Kazinga Channel gives you the opportunity to view wildlife up close: hippos huff and spray mere feet away from the boat, buffalo linger in the shallows. The shores of the channel are also home to an array of birds including pink backed pelicans, pied and malachite kingfishers, saddle billed stork and many others. Overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge or Jacana Lodge (Full Board)

Day 5

Rise early and head to Kibale National Park (about a 06.00 am start) with a packed breakfast to go chimp tracking. The walk in this lush tropical rainforest starts at 8.00am. Trekking in one of the most beautiful and stunning forest in Uganda will highlight its diversity of primates and is home to over 13 species of primates including red colobus monkey, the rare l'Hoest, blue monkey, grey mangabey, pottos, black faced vervet monkeys, baboons, galagos and also bushbabies. After Kibale Forest you will be driven to Semliki Valley Wildlife Reserve. Semliki Safari Lodge is a beautiful small private tented lodge nestled on the crest of the Wasa river valley. The Lodge is owned by The Uganda Safari Company and has recently become Uganda's only member of "Classic Safari Camps of Africa". The rooms are tented with large four-poster beds, Persian carpets and en-suite bathrooms. At night through the canvas you can hear the animals moving, the lions roaring and often the leopards harsh sawing as it hunts baboons. (Semliki reserve is situated in the basin of the Western Rift Valley. It is one of the most diverse habitats in Africa with wonderful examples of Riparian forest, gallery rain forest, borassus palm forest, and short and high grass savannas. Chimps exist next to elephant, lion and buffalo as well as the usual western Uganda species.) Following dinner we will go on a night drive. This is the only place in Uganda where you can do a night drive. You never know what you may see. Often the big cats are sighted as well as the diminutive genet and serval cats. Unusual nocturnal dwellers also show themselves, such as the white tailed mongoose and slender mongoose, standard and pennant winged nightjars depending on the time of year. There are always surprises. Overnight at Semliki Safari Lodge (Full Board)

Day 6

After breakfast on your balcony, climb aboard the vehicle with a packed lunch for a boat trip on Lake Albert to see the incredible and rare Shoebill, visually a cross between a dodo and a dinosaur. The lake is superb. There are sand cliffs where brightly coloured colonies of red-throated bee-eaters dart in an out of their burrows, there are waterfalls several kilometers up the lake which provide a great picnic spot, and several fishing villages along the way, virtually untouched by the 'western world'. The drive back to the Lodge through the borassus palm forest and the acacia savannah reveals different species of raptors and passerines. Overnight at Semliki Safari Lodge (Full Board)

Day 7

Another early start - after an early breakfast you will depart for Murchison Falls National Park where you will stay at Paraa Lodge. The Lodge is a comfortable Lodge over looking the Victoria Nile. It has a large swimming pool and all the amenities you would expect from a comfortable safari Lodge. It is also well situated on the North Bank of the Nile close to the main wildlife viewing. On game drives among other creatures you should see Rothschild giraffe, buffalo, lion, elephant as well as several species of antelope. We will go for an early evening walk or game drive to the Pakuba area of the park. Overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge (Full Board)

Day 8 Lake Albert and Nile Delta

Rise for an early breakfast and then go on a morning drive to Lake Albert and the Nile delta in the lush borassus grassland. Here you should see elephant, buffalo, giraffe, lion and a variety of antelope. Return for lunch and then a boat trip to the foot of Murchison Falls where the Nile thunders through a small 8 metre gap, dropping 40metres The Nile itself hosts one of Africa's densest hippo and crocodile populations, and a dazzling variety of water birds including the rare shoebill stork. Overnight at Paraa Safari Lodge (Full Board)

Day 9

After an early morning game drive depart the park via the top of Murchison Falls. Here you will appreciate the awesome power of the water rushing through the narrow gorge. Depart for Kampala where your safari guide will see you to your hotel. Overnight at Emin Pasha Hotel (B&B)

Day 10

Your safari guide will collect you from the hotel and transfer you to Entebbe International Airport for your outbound flight.
