Pretoriuskop restcamp
When the world was still young, some 3 500 million years ago, molten rock forced its way through the earth's crust and solidified to form the spectacular granite outcrops where Pretoriuskop Rest Camp is now nestled.There are several historic places, such as the Voortrekker road, the birthplace of Jock of the Bushveld and the Albasini ruins are within a short drive from the camp. The first tourist hut in the park, the Wolhuter, is found in this camp. The area has a history older than the park itself, as transport riders and freight wagons crossed the area as they moved between the Lydenburg goldfields and the coast.The closest gate is the Numbi Gate. Along the way to this gate, visitors can stop and see Pretorius' grave site. The camp is dotted with some fine examples of Natal mahogany, marula and sycamore fig trees. Nearest Road: H1-1 and H2-2 Ecozone: B. A daily conservation levy is payable.
Pretoriuskop lies in a hilly region with many interesting and picturesque rocky outcrops. Rare antelope species like sable and Liechtenstein's hartebeest as well as rhino may be sighted in this area.
Seasonal Rate - Campsite
The Pretoriuskop restaurant offers guests a buffet breakfast, a la carte Lunch, buffet dinner and a quick service restaurant. Bush braai's & bush breakfasts can also be catered for. Sites for these 'bush meals' are totally unfenced and the wild experience at night is out of this world. Night drives (as in all the camps) take the guest out to the bush braai site and are often enjoyed with regular leopard sightings. Other facilities at Pretoriuskop include cafeteria, communal kitchens, laundromat, swimming pool, post box, shop, picnic facilities, petrol station and telephones.
