The Phinda Resource Reserve stands at a junction where tropical species reach the limit of their migrations south and where others end their journey north. The result is an unmatched diversity of fauna and flora within the seven distinctly different ecosystems of the Phinda Resource Reserve. In the north are the spectacular, unique Sand Forests; in the west the skyline is dominated by the rocky Ubombo mountains. Huge Sycamore Fig and Fever trees line the banks of the Mzinene river flowing through the reserve. Elsewhere, bushveld gives way to open savannah, acacia scrub, ilala palm veld and wetland systems teeming with bird life.

The open grasslands abound with wildebeest, giraffe and zebra, rhino and elephant. Here you will find lion and fleet-footed cheetah with their cubs. In the forest leopard will hunt for shy Nyala and many rare species as well as a multitude of fascinating reptiles, insects and butterflies, abound.

From the Phinda Resource Reserve you can explore the waterways of Maputaland, the vast Lake St Lucia, the Mkuzi swamps, Lake Sibaya and the chain of Kosi lakes which are all prime bird watching areas. Visit the Maputaland coast - the breeding grounds of the giant leatherback turtles or snorkel or scuba dive off the pristine beaches.
