10 day Zambezi Classic Canoe SafariExplore the Zambezi River by canoe. This is an expedition of a lifetime - while leisurely paddling down the river, take in the sights and sounds of the wonderful bird and wildlife.

Transfer to the put in point is 20 minutes. Thee is then a half-hour pleasant walk down into the Gorge. Canoeing begins after a safety talk at approximately 11h00. The Zambezi Classics are the safaris for those in search of wilderness and those seeking in-depth appreciation of the Zambezi River and an expedition of a lifetime. On the last night, clients camp at Kanyemba. The transfer back is approximately 8 hours. Clients are expected back in Kariba at about 16h00.

Please note that this is a camping safari where there are no ablution facilities along the way. all times given are approximate and will vary from trip to trip.

Start: Kariba
Your briefing will be held at the Kariba Breezes Hotel at 18:15 at the lower pool terrace on the evening before your trip departs. After the briefing you will be asked to sign an indemnity form. Canoeing Safaris will collect you for the briefing and return you to your hotel afterwards.
Day 1 Zambezi River
Canoeing Safaris will collect you on the morning of your safari in time for a check in at the Canoeing Safaris' office at 08:00 to hand in extra luggage and valuables. Please do not take your passport on the river with you!

Your safari will depart from Kariba Breezes at 08:30 for shopping to purchase any extra drinks for your trip. Your group will leave the shop at 09:00 for the start of the canoe safari. After arriving at the Kariba Gorge, your luggage is then carried into the gorge and your group will walk the 1,5km down to the river. Here you will meet all your canoeing and camping equipment that has been carried into the gorge already. A safety talk and demonstration on how to paddle a canoe will be given to your group.

At 11:00, paddling will begin until a stop is made for lunch at 13:00. Lunch is a picnic style affair with time for a siesta afterwards to pass the heat of the day until 14:30 / 15:00. Your group then paddles until approximately 17:00 when you set up camp on an island in the middle of the river named Crocodile Rocks. There is time to have a bucket bath, relax and have dinner after a brief safety talk on camping.

Day 2
The group will be woken at sunrise for tea, coffee and biscuits before you start canoeing. Between 08:00 and 09:30 a stop will be made for breakfast.
The group will resume canoeing until a lunch stop is made at 13:00, with time for a siesta. Between 15:00 and 17:00 your group will paddle to the next camping spot at Twin Logs Island.

Disatance: 27 km
Day 3
Your group will be woken at sunrise for tea, coffee, biscuits and breakfast before you start canoeing. Paddling will start around 08:00. Between 10:30 and 11:00 you will reach the pick up point at Chriundu where your equipment will be loaded and you will receive fresh and clean equipment for the second leg of your safari. The group will resume paddling after a light packed lunch to the night stop at Kakomarara Island.

Day 4
Your group will be woken at sunrise for tea, coffee and biscuits before you start canoeing. Between 08:00 and 09:30 a stop will be made for breakfast.
The group will resume canoeing until a lunch stop is made at 13:00, with time for a siesta. Between 15:00 and 17:00 your group will paddle to the next camping spot at Lone Acacia Island.

Distance: 27 km
Day 5
The group will be woken at sunrise for tea, coffee and biscuits before you start canoeing. Between 08:00 and 09:30 a stop will be made for breakfast. You then resume canoeing until a lunch stop is made at 13:00, with time for a siesta. Between 15:00 and 17:00 your group will paddle to the next camping spot at Trichelia Island.

Distance: 23 km
Day 6 Mana Pools
The group is woken up at sunrise for tea, coffee, biscuits and breakfast before paddling starts at 08:00. The group arrives at Mana Pools at 10:00 where fresh supplies are received. You will also have a light packed lunch before canoeing resumes between 12:30 and 13:30. At about 16:30, the group will arrive at the night stop, Chikwenya Island.

Day 7
The group wakes up at sunrise for tea, coffee and biscuits before paddling about an hour for the breakfast spot. After breakfast between 08:30 and 09:30, you paddle until 12:30 where a lunch stop is made followed by a siesta until about 15:00. The group paddles to Chewore High Sand Bank where the night stop is made.

Distance: 24 km
Day 8
Group woken at sunrise for tea, coffee and biscuits before you start canoeing. Between 08:00 and 09:30 a stop will be made for breakfast. You resume canoeing until a lunch stop is made at 13:00, with time for a siesta. Between 15:00 and 17:00 your group will paddle to the next camping spot at Mupata Gorge.

Distance: 30 km
Day 9
The morning is spent as usual. Paddling will stop when you will reach the pick up point at Chriundu. Night stop at the Redcliffs.

Distance: 28 km
Day 10
The group wakes up at sunrise for tea, coffee and biscuits and breakfast before paddling for approximately one hour to Kanyemba, where the canoes and kit are packed on to the vehicle, followed by the trip back to Kariba which is approximately eight hours by road. Arrival time in Kariba is around 16:00.

End: Kariba

No children under the age of 15 accepted unless accompanied by a guardian & there are no other paying clients.
