8 day Zambezi Classic Canoe SafariThis canoe safari includes the whole of the Mana flood plain and the Mupata Gorge. On the last night clients camp at Kanyemba.

Transfer to the put in point is 3 hours. Canoeing begins after a safety talk at about 13.00. This safari includes the whole of the Mana flood plain and the Mupata Gorge. On the last night, clients camp at Kanyemba. The transfer back is approximately 8 hours. Clients are expected back in Kariba at approximately 16h00.

Please note that this is a camping safari and that there are no fixed ablutions along the way. All times given in this trip description are approximate; they will vary from trip to trip.

Start: Kariba

Your briefing will be held at the Kariba Breezes Hotel at 18:15 at the lower pool terrace on the evening before your trip departs. After the briefing you will be asked to sign an indemnity form. Canoeing Safaris will collect you for the briefing and return you to your hotel afterwards.
Day 1 Chirundu
Canoeing Safaris will collect you on the morning of your safari in time to check in at the Canoeing Safaris' office at 08:00. Here you will leave behind any excess luggage and will be given a lockable valuables bag. Passports should not be carried on the river with you.
The group will depart for the shops at 08:30 for shopping to purchase any extra drinks for your trip. Your group will leave the shop at 09:00 for the start of the canoe safari.
The group will then be transferred by open 4x4 land cruiser to Chirundu, arriving at approximately 11:30. The canoe and kit will be unloaded.
A safety talk and demonstration of how to paddle a canoe will be given to your group.
At around 12:00, paddling will begin until 17:00. Lunch is a packed lunch taken on the river.
At approximately 17:00 you will set up camp on an island named Kakomarara, there is time to bath, relax and have dinner after a brief safety talk on camping.

Day 2 Lone Acacia Island Kariba
Your group will be woken up at sunrise for tea, coffee, biscuits before paddling from 06:00 to 08:00 when you stop for breakfast.
At approximately 09:30 the gorup will resume canoeing until you reach the lunch stop at 12:30. After lunch there is a siesta and time to catch up on reference books until 14:30/15:00 depending on the weather. Canoeing continues until approximately 17:00, when the second night stop is made at Lone Acacia Island.

Day 3 Trichelia Island Kariba
The programme is as per day two, with the night stop being made at Trichelia Island.

Day 4 Nyamatusi Island Mana Pools
The group is woken up at sunrise for tea, coffee, biscuits and breakfast before paddling starts at 08:00.
The group arrives at Mana Pools 10:00 where the canoes are loaded on the vehicles and fresh supplies are off loaded, and canoeing proceeds until 12:30. A short lunch break is made where you will receive a light packed lunch. Canoeing starts at approximately 14:30. At around 17:00 the group will arrive at the night stop, Nyamatusi Island.

Day 5 Chewore High Sand Bank
The group wakes up at sunrise for tea, coffee and biscuits before paddling for about an hour to the breakfast spot.
After breakfast between 08:30 and 09:30 you will paddle until 12:30 where a lunch stop is made followed by a siesta until approximately 15:00.
The group paddles to Chewore High Sand Bank where the night stop is made.

Distance: 24 km
Day 6 Mupata Gorge
The programme is the same as day two with the night stop being made in the Mupata Gorge.

Distance: 30km
Day 7 Redcliffs
The programme is the same as day two and three with the night stop being made at the Redcliffs.

Distance: 28km
Day 8 Kanyemba
The group wakes up at sunrise for tea, coffee and biscuits and breakfast before paddling for about one-hour to Kanyemba, where the canoes and kit are packed on to the vehicle, followed by the trip back to Kariba which is approximately eight hours by road. Arrival time in Kariba is around 16:00.

No children under the age of 15 accepted unless accompanied by a guardian & there are no other paying clients.
