Children of all ages welcome

Khoka MoyaTrue to its Shangaan name, Khoka Moya provides the ideal venue to ‘capture the spirit’ of the African bush and experience the essence and exhilaration of living close to nature.
  • Game drives
  • Bush walks
  • Night drives

Khoka Moya is situated in the 23 000-hectare Manyaleti Game Reserve, close to the Orpen gate of the Kruger National Park. It is a haven for those in search of solitude, silence and contemplation. The lodge is unfenced and the many species of game that inhabit the semi-woodland and savannah plains of Manyaleti regularly wander through the camp on their way to the waterhole for a drink or a wallow in the mud. The more bold have even been known to quench their thirst at the swimming pool! A well-camouflaged hide at the waterhole makes for exceptional game viewing, but the reed shelter does nothing to stem the rush of adrenaline resulting from the sound and sight of a pride of lions of a herd of elephants arriving for a drink only a couple of metres away.

A day at Khoka Moya starts at dawn with an early-morning walk or game drive on an open Landrover under the guidance of a ranger and his tracker. Travelling on foot through the wilderness allows one to grasp a dimension of nature often not perceptible to those who travel in a vehicle: a glint of sunlight on a dew-studded spider web. The antics of a dung beetle performing the seemingly impossible and a glimpse of a family of startled mongooses scuttling back into their termite mound. Bird life is also prolific and it’s not uncommon to spot well over a hundred species during a long-weekend visit. When the sun starts setting and shadows elongate, afternoon game drives end with sundowners in the bush followed by spotlight drives which reveal a diverse and fascinating nightlife.

Facilities
The camp has been designed to reflect the simplicity and openness of African living. Using the universal building material of corrugated iron, reminiscent of the houses of the early gold prospectors, and aged planks recycled from a previous wooden structure, Khoka Moya camp has been created to a traditional African plan.

The communal lounge, dining and bar areas encircle an open atrium where al fresco evening meals are served around a massive log fire. The climate-controlled wine cellar offers many fine South African vintages to meet your personal tastes.
Manicured green lawns flow through to the pool and outside bar.
Accommodation
The large, en-suite tents are comfortably furnished in contemporary style and have either double or twin beds made up with fine cotton sheets and down duvets. A double shower and separate toilet are provided and a private veranda in the front of the tent provides a restful seating area for you to absorb the atmosphere in peace and tranquility.
Family
The children’s program includes a children’s activity centre, supervised by the camp staff where children can engage in a variety of activities such as beadwork making, cookie making, drawing and reading. The centre is stocked with a DVD player and a variety of animal and nature related movies, toys as well as a small library aimed at a younger readership. The centre also has bathing and nappy changing facilities.
The swimming pool has a children’s area and we can supply inflatable arm bands if required. There is also an optional menu as an alternative for children, with food such as pasta, fish fingers, hamburgers, hotdogs and ice-cream.

Children are welcome to go on drives and walks with their parents. We have also added a short (1 hour) drive for the children after breakfast where time will be spent looking at some of the small wonders of the bushveld.

The rate for children under the age of 12 years is 50% of the adult rate and is based on the child sharing a tent with the adult. There is no charge for children under the age of 2 years.
