In the very north eastern region of Namibia, at the confluence of the Chobe and Zambesi Rivers lies Impalila Island. This owner-managed lodge is on this island overlooking the Chobe River. The nearest town is Kasane in Northern Botswana and the Victoria Falls are only some 80 kilometers downstream.



Ichingo participates in an ongoing project whereby funds are collected from guests for the Impalila Island Development Trust which is used to assist the indigenous island community in many ways.  There are projects to eliminate the cutting down of trees for housing, provision of water, removal of refuse and litter, etc. The Lodge is also strongly involved in the formation and setting up of a community based conservancy on the island and surrounding flood plain.

 

The Lodge collects its clients by boat from the Kasane immigration office in Botswana for the short trip across the river to the island. Kasane is readily accessible by road from both South Africa and Namibia and in addition there are now frequent flights from Johannesburg to Kasane . Private charters regularly fly directly onto the Island where there is an excellent 1400 meter all weather gravel airstrip.
