Facilities
Kosi Forest Lodge is the only private lodge in the reserve – an unspoilt wilderness that is part of the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park, now internationally recognised as a World Heritage Site. The lodge offers excellent accommodation, fine cuisine and has become a firm favourite as a honeymoon destination. A massive Zulu Podberry tree is the focal point of the main lodge with the lounge, diningroom and bar all opening onto a large, wooden deck around the tree. Kosi Forest Lodge takes full advantage of Maputuland’s sultry weather with most meals served alfresco - on the deck or under large Albizia trees. A swimming pool, built into the deck, at the lake’s edge is always a welcome sight. Candles light the area at night giving it a warm, romantic ambience reminiscent of wild African adventures of long ago.

Extra activities (these are an additional cost):

Snorkelling
The Maputaland coast is renowned for its snorkelling. Guests at Kosi Forest Lodge have the opportunity of exploring the reefs at Kosi Mouth during our day excursions. Snorkelling is good all year round and the water is almost always crystal clear.

Tembe Elephant Park
Tembe Elephant Park is only a 60-minute drive from Kosi Forest Lodge. Guests can enjoy a day game viewing in this 30 000ha wilderness. There is fantastic elephant viewing from the game hides. Please do chat to our reservations office regarding the costs.

Turtle tracking
Turtle tracking (mid-November to mid-February) is offered in the evenings. Giant Leatherback and Loggerhead turtles make their way home having swum the length of the continent in a return journey to the beach where they were born. Research has shown that eggs are often laid within meters of where the mother emerged as a hatchling years previously. Guests are able to view these magnificent creatures meters from where she is laying. Utmost precaution is taken to ensure that she is not disturbed.

Open Ocean Experience
This adventure activity offers guests rare opportunities to experience the variety of marine life that live along the Elephant Coast. An exciting launch through the surf in front of the lodge takes you beyond the breakers to a world of dolphins, whales, whale sharks and snorkelling. The warm Indian Ocean supports a myriad of fish and marine life. Guests can sometimes swim with dolphins or whale sharks or snorkel with manta rays and giant turtles. Maximum 10 guests. No experience is required for this activity, but the launch through the surf can be strenuous. No children under 12 years. Adults over 65 years of age will need a medical practitioner's letter stating a competent level of fitness. This activity is limited by weather and the tides and cannot be guaranteed.
