Freedom, together with a good dose of healthy outdoor fun is what this itinerary is all about. 2 Nights are spent at Club Makokola and 6 nights on the Island Camps. Once you are ensconced in a comfortable campsite on the islands, the choice of activities is up to you. Besides sea kayaking, there's also snorkelling, SCUBA diving, nature trails and bird-watching. Shady hammocks on the beach are perfect retreats for those wanting to curl up with a good book. All itineraries are suitable for anyone who is in good health. Motorised boats are used as safety back-up and to supply the camps. These boats are also available for anyone unwilling or unable to kayak. The protected waters and nearby islands of Lake Malawi bring sea kayaking within reach of anyone irrespective of fitness or experience. The two-person kayaks are large and stable. Kayak Africa's guides are ex-fishermen, adding local knowledge and experience to the safety mix. Kayak Africa's camps on Mumbo Island and Domwe Island are luxurious yet rustic. They are located within exclusive concession areas, guaranteeing privacy in paradise. Lake Malawi is a great place to SCUBA dive, ideally suited to beginners or those who prefer relaxed diving with no dangers. The SCUBA option includes the PADI Open Water Diver course for beginners (4 days duration), the PADI Advanced course (2 days duration), or unlimited casual dives. All tuition, certification and equipment are included. A bush kitchen with an open fire and expert island chef is the source of three wholesome meals a day. Due to the intimate group size, meals always have that special, home-cooked flavour. Malawi-grown tea and coffee are freely available. Beer, soft drinks, G&T's, and whiskey are for sale via a help-yourself, honesty system. The itinerary and rates can be easily adjusted to include transfer flights to and from Johannesburg or Lilongwe/Blantyre. |
