Lagoon CampLagoon Camp lies among ancient trees on the shady banks of the Kwando River from where visitors can view elephants drinking almost daily.
  • Game drives
  • Bush walks
  • Night drives
  • Boat cruise

Lagoon Camp lies on the shady banks of the Kwando River among ancient African Ebony and Marula trees, under the watchful gaze of the resident hippos.

Among the great variety of antelope species found at Lagoon, the endangered Sable and Roan are often seen. Seasonally, large herds of elephant drink almost daily at the river bank in front of the camp, in full view of the guests. The big herds attract big predators. The lions of Kwando are famous for their elephant, hippo and buffalo kills. Playful spotted necked otters are commonly seen performing in the Lagoon right in front of the tents.

Lagoon camp is also the venue for Guides Training Courses which are held annually to train guides and some limited numbers of paying guests. For a full safari experience book yourself onto one of these courses.

This is one of the few camps that accept and welcome families. There is for example a junior rangers course on offer. This caters for teenagers and is a scaled down version of the real guides training courses. For the younger children activities like spoor castings, using spotlights, animal and bush identification, greeting card making out of natural materials etc. are offered. The staff also do things like plat the hair of the girls in the traditional way. In essence the kids are either busy or asleep.

Please note that the rates do not include transfers.

Hosts
Lisa Reed is one of a handful of female professional guides based in the village of Maun in Botswana. She works with Lagoon Camp and is involved with keeping the children busy and teaching them about the bush.
Facilities
There is a guest pool in which to cool off during the hot months.

Freshly prepared meals are served in the thatched dining room overlooking the tranquil waters of the lagoon.
Accommodation
6 twin-bedded luxury tents en suite

Each tent looks out over the water and has en suite facilities that include 24 hour hot and cold running water, open-air showers, flush toilets and modern amenities.
Family
Lagoon Camp believes in dealing with families in a positive way rather than adopting the more conventional approach which is to tolerate the children at a discount and try keep them out the way.
This positive approach means that the family is allocated a specialist guide, trained and keen to deal with families. Families have their own private vehicle with their own guide and tracker who will look after them both on game drives and in camp. Staff are assigned to handle the children while in camp to allow the parents to get a break as well.
Obviously there are some conditions and restrictions that apply:
- Children between 8 - 12 years old are welcomed at full rate, all year round but must take a private vehicle or use the family safaris guides.
- Younger children are accepted with exclusive camp bookings or at certain times of the green season (again a private vehicle is required) (the high season is 1 July to 31 October). This service is subject to availability.
- Children are more work and often break things in camp and require extra staff to keep them amused and therefore are charged full rate - even if sharing a tent with parents.
- Triples can be made up in the tents. Parents often split up with children ie. father plus child and mother plus child.
