| Start: Entebbe Scheduled flights: Entebbe International Airport | Day 1 Lake Mburo National Park Your safari guide will meet you at Entebbe International Airport and then drive you through Uganda's rolling green hills to Lake Mburo National Park (drive approximately 3-4 hours). Bird viewing opportunities are excellent - for birders, this is one of the best places to find African fin foot, papyrus, bush shrike. Lake Mburo National Park is an extension of the Tanzanian plains with big herds of zebra, impala, eland and other ungulates. Spend the afternoon relaxing or paddle on the lake in a dugout canoe. Overnight at Mantana Lake Mburo Tented Camp (Full Board) | Day 2 Bwindi National Park After any early morning guided bush walk and breakfast, you will head through the highlands to Kabale, for lunch. Continue on your journey, which offers excellent views including the triangular peaks of the Virunga volcanoes of Rwanda and the Congo. The road then drops down into a valley, to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to the mountain gorilla. Although best known for its mountain gorillas, the forest also attracts spectacular birds. There are 23 of the 24 Albertine rift endemics including the African green broadbill, bar tailed trogan and other beautiful forest species. The bird life and primates in Bwindi is quite superb and there is an incredible diversity of flora. Overnight at Gorilla Forest Camp or Volcanoes Bwindi Camp (Full Board) | Day 3 Bwindi National Park Up relatively early for a hearty breakfast to give you the energy needed for gorilla trekking. Report to the ranger station at 8.00am, from where the guides will take you through the bush, slashing at the undergrowth, parting thick creepers, to track the gorillas. (This trek can take from ½ an hour to 5 hours - a reasonable degree of fitness is required as well as a sturdy pair of walking/hiking shoes). Sit in the forest among the gorillas, listening to them grumble to each other, and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male - the silverback. Amazing to think that there are only 650 or so of these creatures left in the world!
Should you have the energy this afternoon, take a guided forest walk on the Munyaga River trail which is an ideal short walk; this trail leads to three delightful crystal clear waterfalls, and there is a profusion of tree ferns, epithytic ferns, orchids and Bwindi's colourful array of butterflies. Here you may also see birds and primates from the forest edge. Overnight at Gorilla Forest Camp or Volcanoes Bwindi Camp (Full Board) | Day 4 Queen Elizabeth National Park Today you will leave Bwindi passing through the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park known as Ishasha, famed for its tree-climbing lions. Ishasha is a remote and beautiful extension of Queen Elizabeth National Park. You will see buffalo, topi and hippo among other species. It is a fabulous sight to see the lions draped from the trees and nowhere in Africa do you stand a better chance of seeing this than in the large low limbed fig tree of Ishasha. You will then continue through the Maramagambo Forest to the northern sector of the park. The park is host to a large variety and volume of wildlife. There over 560 species of bird found here including the martial eagle, black-rumped buttonquail, Verreaux's eagle owl and African skimmer to name but a few. You will stay at Mweya Safari Lodge. This is a large first class lodge overlooking the Kazinga Channel and the resident hippo population. If there is time, you may want to go on an early evening game drive. Overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge (Full Board) | Day 5 Kyambura Gorge In the morning you will leave Mweya early for the 08.00 chimp trek in Kyambura Gorge. You will then continue to take a guided walk in the mysterious Maramagambo Forest. This feels prehistoric - strangler figs, giant screw palms, and wildlife of its own: There is a bat cave, housing thousands of Egyptian fruit bats, brightly coloured lizards and geckos and for those not too squeamish: the possibility of seeing large African rock pythons that come to feed on the bats. There is also a beautiful deep cobalt blue lake in the forest. Return to the Lodge for lunch. In the afternoon a boat trip on the Kazinga Channel will allow you to experience wildlife up close where hippos huff and spray mere feet away, buffalo linger in the shallows and a tremendous variety of birds grace the grasses on the river's edge. Amongst those you will see are the malachite and pied kingfishers, great white and pink-backed pelicans and the open-billed stork. Overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge (Full Board) | Day 6 Queen Elizabeth National Park Today you will leave Queen Elizabeth National Park via the northern crater drive, through Fort Portal to Ndali Lodge. This is where you will be staying overnight prior to your chimp trek in Kibale Forest. This is a quaint lodge situated on the edge of a crater lake with views of the Rwenzori Mountains from the individual verandahs. The afternoon Visit a nearby tea plantation or go for a paddle on the crater lake in the lodge's canoe. Overnight at Ndali Lodge (Full Board) | Day 7 Kibale Forest National Park You will leave Ndali early and drive through to Kibale National Park. The walk in this lush tropical rainforest starts at 8.00 am, the highlight of this walk is the chance to track chimpanzees. Trekking in one of the most beautiful and stunning forests in Uganda will highlight its diversity of primates and is home to over 13 species of primates including red colobus monkey, the rare l'Hoest, blue monkey, grey mangabey, pottos, black faced vervet monkeys, baboons, galagos and also bushbabies. Once your Kibale Forest walk is over, you will depart on your return trip back to Kampala. On arrival in Kampala, your guide will transfer you to the hotel.
