Safari lodges are luxury establishments located in remote, wilderness areas, national parks or game reserves. More than just accommodation, they are wildlife experiences in their own right - featuring dusk and dawn game drives in specially modified vehicles, walking safaris, game and bird hides, hosted by knowledgeable ranger guides. Safari lodge accommodation and cuisine are generally of a very high even luxurious standard, yet reflect the ambience, textures and colours of Africa. Guests receive personal service and every attempt is usually made to ensure the ultimate wildlife experience.

Lodges usually have traversing rights over prime big game territory, and some have exclusive such rights. As most are located in remote areas, they are serviced by private airstrips so that many game lodge safaris feature flights in light aircraft in and out of the wildlife areas.

Lodge safaris allow travellers to explore the wilderness areas of southern Africa on mobile safaris generally, but in the comfort of comfortable-to-luxury lodges and hotels en-route.
