Madikwe Game Reserve travel info The Madikwe Game Reserve was established in 1991 in a combined effort of government, the private sector and local communities. During "Operation Phoenix"(1993-1997), 8000 animals of 28 species were introduced into its 60 000 hectare expanse, consisting of open woodland and grassland. Rocky hills dot the landscape. Madikwe is one of the few game reserves in the world proclaimed purely for its land being most suitable and sustainable for conservation and tourism.
Seasons The dry seasons rus from May-Sep, and days are dry and cold. Temperatures average at 20 degrees Celsius. The wet season runs from Oct-April, with highest rainfall from Nov-Feb. Days are humid and hot, and tempertaures average at around 30 degrees Celsius.
Wildlife There are over 400 bird species. You should see: Brown and Spotted Hyena, Lion, Blessbuck, Buffalo, Eland, Elephant, Gemsbok, Giraffe, Red Hartbeest, Impala, Kudu, Nyala, Ostrich, Black and White Rhino, Sable, Springbok, Tsessebe, Waterbuck, Blue Wildebeest and Zebra.
