Closer to nature" is the main focus and the reserve's no-nonsense approach to providing the genuine feeling of Africa, is becoming even more popular with people who are sick of over-commercialisation and the loss of real Africa.. All travel within the reserve is by open landrover or on foot, with highly-skilled Swazi rangers having no difficulty in tracking the reserve's abundant wildlife, including black rhino, elephant, white rhino, buffalo, hippo, giraffe, crocodile, sable, roan and tsessebe. Birdlife includes vultures, bateleur and martial eagle.

Mkhaya's exclusive bush camp (Stone Camp), hidden deep in cool riverine forest, offers accommodation in a stone and thatch cottage, luxury or standard safari tents, with meals and daily activities all inclusive. Camp capacity is limited to low numbers and all meals are cooked over a central log fire.

Guided walking safaris and landrover daytours , as well as a white-water rafting daytour on the Great Usutu River, Swaziland's largest river. Depending on the season, rapids vary between Grade 2 and Grade 4.
