Sanbona Game Reserve travel info The name Sanbona is a combination of the "San" people, who occupied the area 100 years ago, and "bona"representing their vision. Magnificent views, panoramic landscapes and towering cliffs, streams and the abundance of trees and indigenous flora, all contribute to making the Breede River Valley one of the Western Cape's most diverse regions. The ever-changing colours of our majestic mountains, scenic passes, rivers, vineyards and orchards as well as the multitude of attractions, will offer you an unforgettable adventure, whether this is in the physical sense or simply a kaleidoscope of scenic experiences.
The easily accessible towns, nestled among the Valleys, all offer ample opportunity for discovery. From visits to wineries and game reserves, art and cultural tours, museums, hiking trails and mountain climbing, 4x4 routes and canoeing expeditions, horse riding and caves. You can unwind in one of the invigorating hot-springs, revel in luxury or relax in rustic tranquility. Activities on the farm inlcude hot-air ballooning, horse-riding, star-gazing and guided walks, too name but a few.
Sanbona has initiated a unique conservation programme that aims to breed the White Lion for release into the wild. Our dream is to reintroduce this rare animal into areas where it has been wiped out - for example, in the Timbavati region, where records indicate that the White Lion was spotted in the wild as far back as 1925.
Seasons
Sanbona is open all year round. In January and February temperatures can soar to 35-40 Celsius, so Oct-Dec (spring flowers) and March-April are preferable.
