Silhouette Island travel info

Silhouette Island is a 25 square kilometer paradise, and is the third largest island in the Seychelles. The island lies 19 km from Mahe, and can be reached by boat or by helicopter. Mont Dauban, 740 m in altitude, is the second highest peak in the archipelago. Covered by dense vegetation and equatorial forest, Silhouette has been fortunate in being sparedsignificant human disturbance. The island is said to have been home to the notorious privateer Hodoul, who, it is said, has hidden untold treasures there.
For scuba diving enthusiasts a fully equipped centre ( with resident Divemaster-PADI) will supply the means to satisfy al curiosity in the warm, clear waters around the island, where, as it is national marine park, the collection of live shells and other organisms is forbidden.
Silhouette is a majestic and mountainous island made for walkers and nature lovers. Paths from the hotel lead directly into the secret heart of the forest, thus linking Grande Barbe and Anse Mondon to La Passe, where the hotel is located. Some of these paths may be quite a challenge, so an ealry start and good shoes are a must. Every explorer at heart will surely marvel at the incredible vegetation and huge trees found in the forest, a forest in which at least eighty endemic species are to be found together with numerous endemic birds, insects and reptiles. The six hour walk (return) to Grande Barbe is the joy of every modern Dr. Livingstone. The three hour walk (return) to Anse Mondon brings the first taste of the hot humidity of the tiny man made forest trails. At the end, the cool, turquoise waters of the small, sandy bay are perfect for a swim and a rest before the walk back.
Silhouette is a welcoming island with very few inhabitants and equally few visitors : the nearest thing to the garden of Eden, it is what Seychelles used to be. To preserve it take only pictures, and leave only footprints.

Seasons
Seychelles has a pleasant year-round climate with the highest average monthly temperature seldom going above 32 degrees C and the lowest seldom below 27 degrees C. The cool, dry south east trade winds blow from May to September and the wetter, north west trades from December to March. December and January are usually the wettest months with around 300mm of rain being recorded on average.
