| Facilities The camp has been specifically designed to be eco-friendly and private. No noisy air-conditioning, electric lights or televisions. Instead, the cleverly designed thatched rooms are cool in summer and warm in winter, while kerosene lanterns provide light and "donkey boilers" (fire geysers) for hot water.
The camp consist of a central dining and lounge area with full bar and a swimming pool with a deck. Cuisine has been specially created to reflect the continent of Africa. Meals are social occasions and a time to listen to and share fascinating stories of the bush.
Dress code is bushveld casual (neutral coloured clothing) and lightweight, but a sweater/jacket may be required. During the winter, June, July and August warm clothes are necessary especially early morning and on game drives. A hat, sunscreen, flashlight and binoculars will add pleasure to your stay.
Rangers carry rifles on all game drives and excursions, and all guests are escorted to their chalets after dark. Guests’ safety is of utmost importance. In the event of an emergency, Tangala has full air evacuation facilities. Although the camp is created to protect guests from malaria, it is strongly recommended that they take their appropriate preventative measures. The rooms have wheelchair-friendly ramps making the rooms accessable for elderly and dissabled guests. | Accommodation 4 twin bedded thatched chalets; 1 double bedded thatched chalet
The chalets have been interior designed to provide the ultimate in rustic luxury. All chalets have en suite facilities and own private viewing patio. Hot water is provided at all times with traditional old-fashioned "donkey-boilers" (geysers). | ecoQuest
Footprint Hot water is made by lighting a wooden fire (exotic woods used) inside a 'donkey boiler'. This system works as effectively as a geyser. There is no electricity in camp, but solar panels provide the office with power and camera batteries etc. can be charged here. Kerosene lanterns are used throughout the camp to supply light and also effectively warm the rooms at night. The rooms are especially designed to have high pitched knocks and extra thick thatching - all helping to keep the rooms cool in summer and mild in winter. The high thatching roof traps hot air high above the living area providing a cool interior in summer.
Garbage is removed away from the premises so as not to attract scavenging animals to the lodge. The lodge has made a conscious decision not to have any lawns around the lodge in order to save water. There is only a small section of lawn kept around the pool. To further save water and in an attempt not to poison the surrounding ecosystem with chemicals and soaps, washing is not done on the reserve but in the local town!
Conservation Tangala has 3 full time teams of anti poaching staff as well as a full time vehicle patrolling the borders. The team has been active in patroling the Thornybush Reserve and removing snares set by poachers (see photo). They have a proud record of never having lost any Elephant or Rhino due to poaching on the reserve. The Tangala team has also been responsible for introducing Black Rhino which was extinct for more than a 100 years in the area. | Rate includes . accommodation . all Meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner and game drive snacks) . 2 game drives and a bush walk daily | Rate excludes . beverages and bar account . staff gratuities . shuttle service between airport and camp | Access Daily flights are available from Johannesburg to Eastgate Airport (Hoedspruit).
