Warm greetings from wintery South Africa...! We are finding
ourselves in the best of game viewing seasons and excited to
bring you some heart-warming news from Africa.
As for all things in nature, our product coordinator and
resident ecologist, Lara Husted, is finding herself in a new
season of her life. It is a sad day as we are saying goodbye to
Lara, but at the same time we look back on all the wonderful
things that she has contributed to the heart and conservation
ethic of our team. We will miss her nature-mindedness and her
responsible attitude towards the earth tremendously, and will
try our best to live up to her high standards.
In order to add some new flavour to the season, we are bringing
you a few spicy news nibbles....In this issue:

Gates family names gorilla
It seems that even some the most technological of the human species are falling in love with the wonders of natural Africa... Philanthropist Bill Gates and his family have recently visited a forest area in Uganda, which is home to the Sabyinyo group of Mountain Gorillas. After their visit they named one of the baby gorillas Keza (the cute one) and so forever ingrained her memory in their hearts....

4. Something inspiring
Children in the Wilderness - Botswana
The Children in the Wilderness Project has enabled 24 formerly street children, who have dropped out of school and who have been eking out an existence on the streets of Maun, Botswana, to see what life can offer them.
Using environmental education, therapeutic recreation, counciling, mentoring and "old fashioned" fun, the programme opens up the minds of children, improves their self-esteem and inspires them to continue with their education. This has lead to 18 out of the 24 participants in 2006 having returned to school immediately following their visit to the wilderness.

Game viewing in greater Kruger National Park
This month has been a wild game viewing time at Lion Sands. Not only have guests viewed three leopard killings, but it all happened on one day - in three different locations! Of these the most spectacular was of one leopard separating and taking down a buffalo calf. All to show that game viewing in and around Kruger Park is better than ever and that this is a destination never to be missed when visiting Africa.
6. ecoAfrica's ecoQuest
As the team behind ecoAfrica we have committed ourselves to finding and supporting lodges and operators that goes out of their way to ensure a responsible eco experience for their guests. This includes the sensitivity of their built environment, their use of natural resources and energy, possible uplifting projects among local communities, respect towards wild animals and their environment and sensitivity when visiting these habitats. We also make sure that guests will be escorted by knowledgeable, experienced and responsible guides.
Every month we highlight one of these exceptional lodges and it is with pride and pleasure that we present to you our lodge of the month:
Umlani Bushcamp in the Timbavati (Greater Kruger National Park).
We encourage you to take a look, and be assured that when you visit this fantastic camp, you will not only experience the heart of Africa, but also contribute to her sustainable use and conservation.
7. Traveller feedback
Thanks for setting up a wonderful safari holiday with Rhino Post Lodge! My only complaint is that it was too short, but that is not your fault! Cam Carruthers is an environmental lawyer and he did the
